Guardianship is a protective proceeding in which one person(s) is given authority to take care of another person, another person’s money and property, or both.  At Law Office of Lindsey Williams, we handle all types of guardianships. The protected person can be a minor or an adult.  The guardianship may be needed so that a child can attend school in the guardian’s school district. A guardianship is sometimes necessary for a child with troubled parents who cannot take care of him or her.  A guardianship may be done by a parent or third party over a person who is technically an adult but who cannot take care of himself or herself because of physical, mental or emotional disabilities. A guardianship may be needed in personal injury cases in which a minor is going to receive monetary damages, or in when a minor inherits money. And, of course, a guardianship may be needed for an elderly parent or relative who can no longer take care of himself or herself, or for someone who is temporarily incapacitated because of illness.
